PERSONAL PROJECTS
Places: Atlantic coast to the south and north of the mouth of the Tagus river.
Date: 2019 to the present.
The Office where I work is close to home, on the Atlantic coast to the north and south of the estuary of the Tagus River, from Roca cape to Espichel cape, near to the capital of Portugal. My Office has no walls, no ceiling or doors, it is cold, hot, windy and wet.
Being my first photographic project, the Office started without me even noticing that I was working on a project and to be honest at the time I didn't even know what photographic projects were. I've always lived by the coast so it felt natural to start my journey as a landscape photographer photographing my beaches, my cliffs and my ocean.
Obsession is a strong word but not enough to describe my feelings towards the Art of capturing seascapes. In my search to make any sense of what is happening in my artistic mind whenever I feel the calling of the sea, I came to the conclusion that the coastline is a sort of limbo; a natural frontier that separates two worlds; the Humans world where everything is consumed, exhausted, polluted, altered, and the mostly unknown Natural world where everything is regenerated, rewilded. There, where these worlds collide, the coastline, there are cliffs that crumble, land that just disappears, but there are also rocks that stand against the passing of time and change. The Natural world is on an unstoppable quest to purge all the evil from the land. This is an almost tied battle fought on every tide where an invisible force advances little by little and every pebble and grain of sand can make the difference on the outcome of this war.
